Blue Holes – The Bahamas

Known as the Blue Hole which is the entrance to the network of caves, some even reaching up to 14 kilometers in length. Divers have reported large numbers of aquatic creatures that some of them are new to science. In addition, they had recorded a full room with stalactites and stalagmites are the only form of a dry cave. For this cruise is evidence that at one time, nearly 65 000 years ago, when the world was still in the grip of major ice ages terakhirya, Bahamas is the sea level up to 150 meters lower than today. Over time, the limestone of the islands was eroded by water and a large cave network is made. When sea level rose again about 10,000 years ago, some collapsing inward and Blue Holes are formed.

The Great Blue Hole is located at Light House Reef approximately halfway between Long Caye and Caye Sandbore. This is approximately 60 kilometers east of the mainland of Belize (city). In 1997 it was designated as a World Heritage site.
